Double Coin’s OTR tire plant in Thailand operating at capacity

MONROVIA, Calif.—Double Coin Holdings Ltd.’s plant in Thailand is operating at full capacity, able to produce off-road and radial truck/bus tires, according to Tim Phillips vice president of marketing and operations for Double Coin’s CMA L.L.C. subsidiary in Monrovia.

Phillips said the facility in Rayong, Thailand, is able to fulfill container-level orders, and products made in Thailand are not subject to the elevated antidumping and/or countervailing duties associated with products produced in China.

With major competitors reliant on Chinese plants alone for production, he said that puts Double Coin customers “in an excellent purchasing position in the face of product shortages and higher prices from China.”

The plant, which opened in mid-2017 on a 3.6 million-sq.-ft. site in Thailand’s LK-RICH Estate, has the capacity to manufacture more than 1.8 million radial truck tires as well as more than 50,000 OTR tires per year, CMA said.

The plant, which operates under Huayi Group (Thailand), is a joint venture with Bangkok-based Tribeca Enterprise Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Thai rubber company Thai Hua Rubber Public Co. Ltd. and the promoter of the LK-RICH estate.

Shanghai Huayi is the parent of Double Coin Holdings.

The plant is controlled by the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software, Double Coin said, and is integrated with the SAP management system.

The company said plans for expansion of the Thai plant have been initiated.

Phillips noted that, in addition to container-load shipments, Double Coin also is stocking and shipping tires from its warehouses in Memphis; Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Vancouver; San Jose, Calif.; Costa Rica; and Queretaro, Mexico.
